I'm terrified of heights, but I'm rappelling off of this building because the work that The Source does is important.

I know that most of my friends already donate extensively to charities, but I’m asking anyway. The Source serves one of the most under-served, socioeconomically depressed, and conservative regions in the country. It needs your help.

Fundraising for an LGBTQ non-profit out here is particularly difficult—but whatever we raise carries an extraordinary impact because there are no other queer community support services within a 50-60 mile radius. Visalia isn’t Boston. There are no gay clubs here or lgbt book stores and queer visibility carries a sense of personal risk; I’m more likely to see pro-Trump bumper stickers than pro-LGBT ones.

The Source might be the only visibly LGBTQ space in the region—and right now, the Source isn’t very visible; it’s located downstairs in the back of a basement in a commercial complex. The Source hopes that, as a result of this fundraiser, they might be able to move into a larger and even more visible space (maybe something street level even!) so that they can better and more openly serve this community.

I’m hoping to raise $1000 because $1000 is the cost needed to keep The Source open for exactly one month. In that time, The Source will serve roughly 500 people, ranging from youth, elders, people in recovery, parents looking for support, and their children.

I found a sponsor for matching funds, so every dollar you donate will be doubled up to a total of $500—allowing me to reach my goal of $1000!

Here is just a sample of the services the Source provides during any given month:
